Atoco

Atoco is a global team of scientists, entrepreneurs, and business leaders who've joined forces to solve climate change using transformational atmospheric water harvesting and carbon capture technology. While at nclud, I led the project to define their brand strategy, developed their core brand messaging, led design for both their brand identity and website, and collaborated with Atoco to plan a multi-phase launch for the brand.

Brand Strategy & Positioning

The climate solutions tech industry has grown rapidly over the past few years. With so many new players, getting Atoco's strategy and positioning right from the start was crucial.

We dove deep into analyzing competitors, reviewing the market landscape, and interviewing key stakeholders to map out a brand position that would set Atoco apart from the crowd. We codified this in a brand messaging guide that became the backbone of the brand.

Brand Identity

We explored a number of different concepts and quickly honed in on centering the brand identity around the two molecules Atoco is focused on: H20 and C02.

For the logo, we took inspiration from electron cloud mappings to come up with unique shapes for each of the molecule's atoms that are reflective of how they look in real life. We chose a color palette that feels refined, professional, and optimistic, and typography that strikes a balance between feeling scientific and professional.

The overall effect is a brand that strikes a balance between being professional and scholarly, while also feeling optimistic about the future.

Website

We planned a multi-phase brand rollout, so we designed the website to be as flexible as possible. We took full advantage of Wordpress's Gutenberg editor to make block-based layouts that could easily be changed over time.

We also continued to extend the site by developing custom interactive features to help the user better understand Atoco's mission and how it will impact the world.
